FILE UNDER: THINGS WE LOVE HEARING

Unrelated artwork by Shaun O'Dell

This recent note from a parent completely made our day!:

"I want to say THANK YOU for making this club so fun and exciting.  Lilly has never liked art very much...I think because she had fine motor issues when she was younger and she always thought her art work was "bad" so she never wanted to spend any time on art.  I signed her up for this club without her even knowing because I was hoping it would make her excited about art.  And...it HAS!!!  Your project ideas are so creative that she is coming out afterward RAVING about it.  She wanted to explain every last detail of her cave drawing to me and was so proud of it.  I am so pleased with what you are doing with the kids.  Thank you so much!!" - Sarah, parent of Art Brains student

Thank you, Sarah!

PANCAKE MOUNTAIN

There's a great article about Pancake Mountain over at Nerdy With Children that does a fantastic job of summing up the rad kid's television show:

Pancake Mountain is the coolest kid’s show you’ve never seen. Part surrealistic satire, part indie music showcase (and all fun), Pancake Mountain goes where most kids shows fear to tread...The sketches on the show are just as cool, geared toward making kids think rather than telling them how to behave.

Any program or activity that encourages kids to think independently rather than spoon-feeding them pre-prescribed notions is A+ in my book (not to mention featuring bands like The Melvins - above - and The Evens - below, playing "Vowel Movement"). My future children will definitely be watching Pancake Mountain. Here's hoping that by then, the world is closer to catching up with the smart, individualistic, punk mindset of PM and has more mainstream outlets that offer such gems. Stay cool, Rufus!
