COLLAGE SHAKERS AT COMET

collage shaker by Anika

Filling clear, plastic boxes with cut pieces of paper, drawn and painted patterns and textures, youth will make interactive, collaged works of art that shift and change appearance each time they are moved or shaken.

I am pretty in love with this project. I love the randomness of the collage shapes, the fact that each work is many works all in one (depending on how you hold it/shake it), and I love that each of these looks like a piece of abstract art I might like to hang on my own wall.

SHADOW MACHINES AT COMET PING PONG

Here are the results of the "Shadow Machines" project (first debuted at Artisphere) at Comet Ping Pong. Not too shabby for having an hour less art-making time than the 3-hour Art Brains class!

AQUARIACOSMS

Using clear glass jars, wire, laminated drawings, food coloring, and other materials, youth will create their own underwater microcosms.

I wasn't quite able to get quality pictures of these projects - I only had a few minutes and they're tricky to photograph (excuses!), but looked so interesting in person. It was cool to see the drawings become magnified and slightly distorted when immersed in water, and some close-up pictures like the one above remind me of objects suspended in ice. Here are a handful of pictures that unfortunately do not do these beautiful little aquatic scenes justice.
